Myth of Solitude by Michelle Menting
This chapbook includes an interview of Michelle Menting by Naomi Shihab Nye as well as 17 of Mentings's fantastic poems. These poems toil through heartache and the middle west.
An excerpt from the poem "Ode to the Squirrel who Flashes Us Every Morning While We Drink Coffee and Eat Toast":
"It's hard not to smile when he rubs his nuts
against our wrought iron bench. Once he clawed
an acorn, dropped the shell by my plate, an offering
or trade: with his tail all a twitch like a virgin
thief, he grabbed my crust, then left his mark
in a dish of sugar (his yellow dollop marred the white)."
